Book Challenges 2012

I've joined some challenges with some cross-over so we'll see how I do this year.  Setting up this page so I'll be better about keeping track of things.  Here we go:

Back to the Classics Reading Challenge 2012 hosted by Sarah Reads Too Much.  I've been trying to work more classics into my reading.  This is a focused challenge and I think that'll work for me.  Read 1 book in each of 9 categories:

1. Any 19th Century Classic
2. Any 20th Century Classic
3. Re-Read a Classic of Your Choice
4. A Classic Play
5. Classic Mystery/Horror/Crime Fiction
6. Classic Romance - Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
7. Read a Classic Translated from Its Language to Your Own Language
8. Classic Award Winner
9. Classic Set in a Country You (realistically) Won't Visit In Your Lifetime

Eclectic Reading Challenge 2012. The idea of this one is to read one book each from a list of 12 selected genres.

1. Literary Fiction
2. Crime/Mystery Fiction:  The Hunter by John Lescroart
3. Romantic FictionJane Eyre by Charlotee Bronte
4. Historical FictionLionheart by Sharon Kay Penman

The European Reading Challenge hosted by Rose City Reader. Take your own European Tour through books by European authors or European settings.  Each book must be by a different author and set in a different country.  I'm joining at the Five Star (Deluxe Entourage): Read at least five books by different European authors or books set in different European countries.

Vintage Mystery Reading Challenge hosted by My Reader's Block.  Anyone who's read my blog knows I love crime fiction of all kinds.  Lately I've been thinking back to old and loved reads in this genre (Dorothy Sayer, anyone) and this challenge is great for nudging me to indulge in vintage crime fiction reads.  All books written before 1960 around a chosen theme.  I'm going with Deadly Decades - 8 books from 8 different decades.

4. 1920 - 1929
5. 1930 - 1939
6. 1940 - 1949

War thru the Generations Reading Challenge 2012 - WWI - hosted by Anna and Serena (it has its own blog and everything).  The challenge this year is focused on WWI.  I've been meaning to read more about WWI and this is a great push towards that.  I'm joining at The Dip Level (1-3) books.  Movies can also be added in.
