Battle of the Prizes - British AND American Versions!

I am SO excited - the inimitable Rose City Reader has announced this year's Battle of the Prizes and has added a British version to the existing American one.  I'm doing both (jumps up and down and claps her hands)!  This was my first reading challenge ever when I did it last year and it was great fun.

Here's the scoop:

American Version:  

Chose three books that you have not read before:

1. One that won both the Pulitzer and the National Book Award (here is a list of double dippers);
2. One that won the Pulitzer but not the National (Pulitzer winners are here); and
3. One that won the National but not the Pulitzer (National winners are here).

Here are my choices, subject to change:

1. The Color Purple by Alice Walker for my double-dipper (I can't believe I haven't read it).
2. Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry for my Pulitzer winner (I can't believe I haven't read it).
3. World's Fair by E.L. Doctorow for my National Book Award winner (I'm wanting to read more Doctorow plus it's set during the Great Depression and that's feeling familiar these days).

Next, the British Version:

Chose three books that you have not read before:

1. One that won both the Booker and the James Tait Black prizes (here is the short list of double dippers);
2. One that won the Booker but not the James Tait Black (Booker winners are here); and
3. One that won the James Tait Black but not the Booker (James Tait Black winners are here).

Here are my choices (also subject to change):

1. Last Orders by Graham Swift for my double dipper.
2. Wolf Hall by Hillary Mantel for the Booker winner.
3. Nights at the Circus by Angela Carter for the James Tait Black winner.

All of these will cross over with other challenges I am doing so I am a reading challenge fool.  Both challenges run from February 1, 2010 to January 31, 2011.  I'll be tracking my progress on the right-hand sidebar.
